Jim, only you know what ruined your marriage. You said it was AA. AA can't do that. But, I was not talking about you. I was talking about my own experiences and my own recovery and that is how I phrase it every time i write about it....that it is my personal experience, take it or leave it. That is ...

Addict #23, You are experiencing something so new and it is challenging...and there are a lot of differing opinions. Something I've found, however, is that how I decide to look ata situation makes a huge difference in the outcome. We will ALWAYS find something to complain about, or to view negativel...

Welcome to the forum...thanks for talking about your story. Everyone here understands what you've gone through, turning into someone you aren't due to drugs. I'm glad you told your sub dr about smoking pot. I know that many addiction therapists understand harm reduction and that getting onto Sub is ...

purposefully confusing ads

I think you are interpreting those ads incorrectly. The ad's I've seen say "Methadone treatment in the comfort of your own home" and I intially thought they were saying you could get a rx from a doctor for methadone rather than go to a clinic but when you click on the ad and read what it is really i...

Can't help you regarding jumping from 50mg methadone to nothing...I jumped from 75mg methadone, waited 6 days, then started Sub. and did great....had minimal w/d symptoms. But as far as sleep....there is an extended release melatonin now. I think it is a 5mg (ER or XL, not sure how they label it) an...

Hi and congratulations on 2 years.... You know I've talked to so many people...addicts/alcoholics...some with a year or two sobriety, some with 15+ years...and everyone says the same....we/they see someone drinking out of a frosty, beautifullly shaped martini glass, see a bottle of pills (no matter ...

Congratulations on 4 years! It takes a lot of work as we all know. The only thing I wanted to comment on is i know many people are on benzos who also take Sub and for many reasons...anxiety, sleep whatever. The way i'd feel more comfortable, if it were me, was if my dr prescribed it and my Sub docto...

Out of woods

Cutty, it sounds as though you are fine. I knew you were on Suboxone, not Subutex and the naloxone is so quickly metabolized that it is not supposed to affect us...but I was fearful of it myself...and partially why my dr put me on subutex. You were pretty brave to take an 8mg film the first time! I ...

not necessarily

Hi, I have to say that I had a similar experience....I was at 75mg methadone when making the switch over and I was day 6 before I took Sub...but only had a 7 on the COWS. I really only had very minimal w/d symptoms...so even though everyone says wait until you are about a 13 on the COWS after 6 days...

Hi, thanks for sharing your story. What comes up over and over in your story is denial....denial is an amazing thing. It can be very useful for us in some ways...keep us in oblivion....or from facing things we are not ready to yet face...but it can also be deadly. You knew all along as you said...ye...

doctor's opinions...

ReRaise...you brought up a good point when you mentioned the medical community and if they consider those of us on sub clean or not. I would love to know how many of our sub doctors believe we are 'clean' on Sub. I have not asked my dr that question because I assumed he sees me as clean and sober. H...

quality of life

DOAQ-You bring up a really great message, gratitude. AA/NA talks about gratitude quite a lot. I think even Oprah had a show about it. I know when I first went to treatment, and AA/NA that gratitude was not my highest priority. Self pity was. Poor me, in treatment, afraid of everything. It took me ye...

ReRaise....I wasn't speaking directly about what you wrote when you said you are not clean on Sub. I was speaking generally...that I have a hard time wrapping my head around the idea that someone would think they are not clean on Sub....just a clarification. I understand what you are saying. harm reduction vs abstinence

In the medical and mental health field there are two terms used when talking about recovery: Abstinence vs harm reduction. Abstinence means someone in recovery takes nothing at all. They are clean and sober from all mind altering substances. Harm Reduction is just that. A means to reduce the harm do...

I think DOAQ has given you great advice. I just wanted to say that I'm on Subutex, not Suboxone....(financial reasons, I'm lucky my dr is giving it to me). When I first started, and I came off of methadone. Initially I was on 10mg, then 12mg and then 16mg the first 2 weeks. I couldn't eat much those...

To dose or not to dose...

I wish you'd waited a bit longer than 24 hours before starting the sub....my first thought is to not take another dose if you had pwd. But today is 48 hours since last methadone dose? If so, you might be ok to take another dose. Maybe take 2mg, wait 20 min, then take another 2mg if you are ok...then...
