Re: Where in the World is Doctor Jeff Junig?

Great discussion. If you guys don’t mind, I am going to move this a different thread because I don’t like seeing my name pop up over and over again. I’ll see what I can do with that later today, but again, interesting stuff. I’ll add a comment after Christmas morning has settled down…

Re: Low bone mineral density in men on OST

Good catch TeeJay. I can only access the abstract, at least for now, and I see the low number (6%) of buprenorphine patients. I think about the studies of testosterone levels in patients on 'opioid maintenance therapy' that showed significant decreases in testosterone in patients on methadone, and n...

Other drug use in opioid treatment programs

We have a nice discussion going under the thread 'where in the world is jeff junig'. That thread has veered off to another subject that is actually much more interesting than wondering where I disappeared to! So let's see if anyone wants to add to that discussion, and we can let the thread about me ...

Re: Weight gain

I agree with jenn. If anything I would expect people to lose weight during a taper, because loss of appetite is such a big feature of opioid withdrawal. Is there a possibility that you're using food or sweets to 'comfort eat' - sort of like a cross-addiction? Some people tend to eat more during stre...

Re: Is there anything for tiredness w/bup?

By tiredness, are you referring to a lack of strength and stamina, or sleepiness? The BEST treatment for both would be exercise, which raises your metabolic rate even when you're not actively exercising. Most people have less sleepiness if they exercise at least every couple days. Modafinil and its ...

The sores btw are called 'canker sores'. This non-science article describes some other reasons for canker sores, besides acidity:

Re: POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECT

I have the same problem with tomatoes and acidity. I doubt, though, that it is a pH issue. I don't know this for sure, but I would be very surprised if the strip was strongly acidic. I'll try to find out more on that - but I'm more suspicious that you are intolerant of the coloring dye or perhaps th...

Re: does it make u mad when

Interesting topic. I don't take as many new patients as I used to, but most of the people I take in as new patients have been using 'street Suboxone' for months, sometimes for years, before finding a doctor. They usually make great patients because of their self-motivation. I do whatever I can to pr...

Re: Giving birth soon

You can educate your OB about epidurals (as I wrote in the other anesthesia posts, I am boarded in anesthesia and did hundreds of epidurals over 13 years). Labor epidurals mostly rely on local anesthetics - bupivicaine, ropivicaine, lidocaine, etc - to provide pain relief. Pain fibers have a smaller ...

Re: An edited version of my TheFix article published on User's News

Wow. Thanks, TeeJay. I've mentioned over the years that I've had many patients pushed away from buprenorphine by sponsors, parents, and spouses. I know of at least 5 who died within a year. Very sad. Some good news: some ER's in Madison WI are giving buprenorphine to opioid addicts who enter in with...

Thanks for stopping by - and good luck with the delivery. I'm surprised that they will automatically open a CPS case. You must live in an area where they have lots of time on their hands! Hopefully you'll sail through the delivery. Buprenorphine won't impact anything unless you need a c-section. In ...

Re: Dosing Every Second Day

Thanks for joining us here Ryan... Ryan.... Ryan! In the US there are two types of programs - 'OBOTs' for'office based buprenorphine treatment', and buprenorphine administered through methadone-assisted treatment programs, which now often have methadone, buprenorphine, or Vivitrol. The latter are ti...

Yes, our page views are down. I submitted a site map to Google, which helps their search engines find pages on the site. The map included 27,000 pages.... and so far they have indexed about 1500 of them. I go on their webmaster portal often to check and do what I can to get us found better. But we w...

Re: smoking before and after dosing

This thread came up after a spammer posted in it, and I thought I'd keep it alive.... Several things impact buprenorphine absorption. Dilution of a dose by saliva REDUCES absorption. You need it to be dissolved, of course, but a higher concentration of buprenorphine will push the drug into tissue mo...

Re: Buprenorphine and valproic acid / Depakote

I don't know, TeeJay. As you probably saw, valproic acid is listed as a 'weak inhibitor' of CYP3A4, the first metabolic stop for buprenorphine. From my experience with both buprenorphine and methadone, drugs that inhibit or induce that enzyme rarely have a noticeable effect on blood levels. I'll con...

Ryan, are you across the pond? I wonder because of your use of the word 'mum', and also because of your job situation because the job market is pretty active in the US for the past couple years.

Where do you hail from?
