Re: Going on Six years!

So ironic to read this post. I just wrote a post in another thread - people interested in following this story can check it out. I have been looking back through this forum, at posts over the past 13 years. The busy days here were in 2013 and 2014, for some reason... and that business led to a NYT s...

Re: My Stubborn Boyfriend

I've been taking steps to revive things here. I decided to submit a new sitemap to search engines (sitemaps show the depth and structure of web sites). I am using a service that reviews contents of large databases. I used the same service to create a site-map of my blog, which contains about 400 pos...

Re: Dizziness,nausea,ears ringing after dosing

The only known actions of buprenorphine are through actions at opioid receptors, so the actions are straight-forward and predictable (for many medications the mechanism of action is unknown). We don't know of any dose-related toxicity caused by buprenorphine. The cluster of dizziness, tinnitus, and ...

Here is what I give my patients to take to the surgeon: https://suboxforum.com/surgery.pdf

If you email me at admin@suboxforum.com, I will send you a copy of the 'users guide'. It is a little outdated, but still mostly good.

Re: An Anesthesiologist's Perspective

I was at Penn in the 1980's under (sp?) Longnekker, Those were the golden years, with Frank Murphy and the younger Eckenhoff managing the OB service. 200 micrograms of fentanyl doesn't 'add' with 4 mg of Dilaudid. That's my point - that docs seem to think that a couple of subtherapeutic doses add up...

Re: An Anesthesiologist's Perspective

Hi! Hopefully I will be able to ease some of those fears. First, Suboxone vs. Subutex isn't an issue (Subutex was an old brand name that was removed from the market 8-10 years ago; now instead we have 5 generic manufacturers of plain buprenorphine). The naloxone in Suboxone is barely absorbed - abou...

Another anesthesiologist's perspective

Not sure if you're aware, but I'm Boarded in anesthesia as well. I trained at Penn and worked in the OR for about 13 years. I do not agree, at all, with stopping buprenorphine in advance of surgery. As you know, buprenorphine is not an issue in the OR. It is easy to overcome the mu-receptor blocking...

Thanks for stopping by. There have been many discussions about tapering here over the years... there are fewer contributors right now, but related posts should pop up next to yours, and if you search the forum you'll find many suggestions. The moderators here also know buprenorphine inside and out. ...

Re: Relapse Question

It's a good thing to talk about what happened (as you did here). There is a phrase in the treatment industry: 'addiction lives in the dark' - the 'dark' referring to keeping our addictions hidden away, known only to ourselves. I think one reason for the effect is because all humans use repression to...

All of the major browsers (Chrome, Explorer, Firefox, Safari, etc) accept cookies as their default setting, so you probably do. If you want to check, go to the top right of your browser page and click to open 'settings' (it may be called 'options' in some browsers), and if using Chrome, select 'adva...

new ads

Google is encouraging people who use their ads to allow them to place them automatically, in areas of the web page of their choosing. Basically, Google provides a small piece of code that goes in the header of the web site, and their computers do the rest. They do not collect any personal informatio...

Re: Pharmacy God complex!

I get so irritated by pharmacists lately... Some people don't realize that doctors cannot make pharmacists dispense. I've had situations where a patient has been doing wonderful on buprenorphine and needs to fill early, and the pharmacist refused to fill - without knowing anything at all about the p...

If the person was in the process of dosing, you might have ingested enough of his dose to cause an opioid effect. Buprenorphine is very potent, and even if he transferred only 25% of his dose, that 2 mg is enough to have significant effects. In that case, the effect would be similar to the effect of...

Re: Need Advise regarding Precipitated Withdrawls

I'm not sure why, but some people have precipitated withdrawal even after waiting for over 24 hours after using heroin. I assume that people in that group are slow metabolizers of heroin. People have precipitated withdrawal when transferring from methadone, in some cases after being off methadone fo...

Re: Posting videos from "that" time period...

I hear you. My using days involved two periods; the early 1990's when my kids were around 5-6 years old (and the vids were all from a big VHS camcorder), and then around 2000 when they were a little older. I HATE looking at them. I love seeing my kids, but I hate hearing my myself in hyper mode, and...

Re: Anxiety

The proper treatment for anxiety is an SSRI (like Celexa) or SNRI (like Pristiq). My favorite is escitalopram (Lexapro), because it has very few side effects. If you had side effects from Celexa, I would recommend starting whichever SSRI your psychiatrist prescribes at a very low dose - maybe 5 or 1...

Re: Issues over 8mg

Some people get more activation from opioids than others. It sounds like maybe your tolerance was a bit lower this time around? I would expect things to gradually improve as your tolerance increases, if that's the case. All of the package inserts say to dose once per day. But I usually recommend dos...

Re: Just for cravings?

I agree. I am always hesitant to raise someone's tolerance, for example someone taking only hydrocodone... but if you are taking 100 mg of oxycodone and surviving, you probably have a tolerance similar to what you get from a full daily dose of buprenorphine. And that's a dangerous amount of oxycodon...
