becoming an alcoholic during / after treatment

Anyone suffered this cross-addiction? I've heard it can happen, and seen it happen myself with people weening off methadone. There's something about the fact that you drink methadone and its calmative effects kick in a similar way to alcohol. When their taper starts getting tough, they start to boos...

Good to hear your post hopeful_sobriety. I can relate to your last post, and honestly, it sounds a lot to me like your addiction is talking to you. Are you being self-honest in your appriasal of life on suboxone comparing it to vicodin? If things were so much better on vicodin, why did you seek trea...

I don't believe in the idea of a single rock bottom. I've had so many low points and things that gutted me over my 13 years addicted to various drugs but they didn't seem to stop me, and I kept using regardless. I guess I was just sick of it all, and wanted to live.

Can you feel an endorphin rush on suboxone?

Should I exercise? Or would it be wasting my time like a water-shot? :D Seriously. I love going to the gym, but have never really bothered while on suboxone. I loved going to the gym when I was opiate free and loved that warm fuzzy smile on my face when I walked out. Do you get that endorphin buzz w...

Staying out of relationships in early recovery

This is a big NA / AA thing I've noticed. Newcomers to recovery are advised to stay out of relationships until they're 12 months clean. Where do you guys stand on this? Should I avoid getting into a committed relationship? Or would something like that actually be good for my recovery? I'm interested...

Hitting the wall

Hey all. I've been on suboxone about 3 weeks now. For the first three weeks everything was quite peachy. I was in a bit of a honeymoon period perhaps. I started out on 8mgs, and am now on 12mg. The last few days I've been feeling quite blue. The weather's been grey & miserable, and I've been dwellin...

Good to hear from you yogii. I could relate to a lot of what you posted. I'm not a doctor, but I can speak from my own experience as someone who's been diagnosed as having bipolar type 1 and concurrent drug addiction. I'd just like to firstly say that IMHO bipolar is a much over-diagnosed condition ...

When I was about 19, I broke into my granny's place trying to get to my grandfather's big bottle of morphine that he clearly didn't need anymore because he'd died a week earlier from cancer. She came home while I was in the process, so I had to pretend it was a surprise visit. I ended up inviting my...

Would you send your daughter to AA/NA meetings? Honestly?

Firstly I'd just like to say that I've done a lot of 12 step based recovery. I've worked the steps, done the meeting a day thing for quite some time. These days I consider myself a reformed 12 step member. I won't go into the reasons as to why I'm over meetings & NA as they are my own, and recovery ...

Re: about relapsing on sub

Anywa, I'm sorry I don't really have any helpful advice for you, I just wanted to post to you since I just had a relapse to, and I really really am feeling bad about it. Heroin is my DOC too (I assume when you say "gear" you mean heroin(?)) so I feel like I can relate. I hear you. I prefer not to l...

Bit of an update. I held tight over the first 24 hour period of wd's, pushed through. Next day spot on 9am I dragged my ass up to the pharmacy (it's funny how wd's can almost make me feel too lazy and sick to get to the pharmacy) and got 8mg this time as my doc prescribed a variable dose of 6-8mgs. ...

first dose of 6mg nowhere near holding me

Hey all, I received my first dose 2-3 hours ago of 6 mgs. Decided to spit after half an hour under my tongue to avoid the side-effects I'd experienced on sub previously. And I tell you, it's far from holding me. Which is bizarre given that in the past 6mg would at least put an end to my withdrawl sy...

suboxone inducing depression then interacting with anti-deps

Hi guys. This is my first post, but I'd just like to say that this site has been fantastic for me in coming to my decision to resume suboxone treatment. I've been on suboxone in the past (as well as subutex & methadone, not to mention 12 step meetings) to try and get over my 11 year heroin addiction...
