Urgent Need Help...I jumped @ 4 mg but

Post by FarTooLong » Tue Sep 08, 2020 3:45 pm

Used 25 mg methadone for the last 12 days.Oxlycontin for 5 days prior to that. Last dose Methadone (20 mg) was Sept 6 1:00pm.
I’ve been on Suboxone 13 yrs, tapered to 4 mg for last 3-4 months and I haven’t taken any Suboxone for about 3 weeks. I feel pretty crappy, but don’t want PWD IF I restart taper. Should I ? Probably can’t tolerate pretty severe PAWS & MUST be able to function as a caregiver to my kidney patient husband .
Should I restart very small dose of Suboxone & taper more slowly? I’m over 60 with declining health & still have my Suboxone script but I need/want to get off for significant health reasons : A Fib & other health issues- also suboxone complicates GI issues & dysfunction, inability to eat, digest, malnutrition, hair & weight loss).
****************************************
My questions are 1) could I possibly be past acute withdrawal from Suboxone??
2) In order to reasonably function as caregiver
( includes hours of cooking vegan meals -part of managing renal decline) , making renal/other health decisions during Covid )
Should I restart taper at .5mg every other day to have some energy & mental function???
*****************************************
Please don’t judge me- I’m desperate to get off this stuff for my health & caregiving responsibilities.
I haven’t o/wise used illicit drugs in 13 years.
PLEASE HELP QUICKLY?!?

Do you have access to more methadone? Is it liquid or pills?

In general it is easier to taper using methadone, as the dose/effect relationship is linear (not so with buprenorphine).

Thank you so much for replying!! No more Methadone is available & no other opiates.
Am I over the worst withdrawals?
Should I restart Suboxone at .5 or 1 mg ( might it be enough to make this tolerable ?) and taper down ?? This old brain/body has just got to function.
This is the longest I’ve gone without Suboxone- last dose around Aug 21 @ 4mg
I’m only getting older in a Pandemic & praying my transplant pt husband, working with disabled adults (4 died fr Covid so far) doesn’t contract it.

If I count correctly you are at 17 days, WOW, I am impressed.
Restarting Suboxone would just be postponing and you have already managed to get through the worst of it.
The physical aspect is mostly done now, but there will/can be residual withdrawal symptoms characterized as PAWS.
There are comfort meds that can be used but given your cardiac history would have to be used with care and monitored.
Gabapentin can help with the restless legs, insomnia and anxiety.
Catapres is another common medication but has effects on your heart and blood pressure.
Hot baths, essential oils (lavender) meditation or yoga can all help.

Sorry, misread that you have been taking other opiates up until Sept 6. I retract that you are through the worst of it.
Restarting at a lower dose and slowly tapering would probably be wise.
