Suboxone shortage COVID 19

Will methadone and buprenorphine together cause withdrawal? How do I stop precipitated withdrawal? What dose of buprenorphine is best? Do I have to be in withdrawal to start Suboxone?

Suboxone shortage COVID 19

Post by JtAlmond » Tue Mar 31, 2020 2:15 am

There will undoubtedly be a hassle getting your suboxone in the foreseeable future. The raw materials worker, the drug manufacturing workers, the transport workers, the wholesalers, on down to your prescriber are in a tight spot and will be for some time due to the COVID 19 global pandemic. The FDA announced one drug is already low but the agency did not say which one. They are not legally bound to share all info with the public. Sub is an accepted drug and its on the WHO List of Essential Drugs however it has only complimentary status which means it lacks a priority or that it can be overlooked if stocks are exhausted. I'd say its time to conserve, or to wean down to avoid problems. One could go to their pharmacy with a script and have to wait a considerable time to get the prescription filled. Its not your doctor or the pharmacys fault. Expect a hassle.

DEA and SAMHSA have both come out with statements that they do not anticipate shortages of methadone and buprenorphine products.
However, I continue to advise people to stockpile at least a weeks worth and preferably a months.
Amazes and befuddles me that someone on 16 mg a day for 4 years and they still don't have any saved.
A drug that has been running into shortages is Adderall, and a number of generics, but these were pre COVID 19 problems.

The raw material - thebaine, comes from my country. Haven't heard anything about it being shut down. Tasmania has no cases.

I have been on Sub for 8 years now. I have not used any other substance including acholol for over 6 years, but I came close today. I go to my normal Dr. Visit and after screening and a group I go to pick up my prescription and I am told there is a month backorder! This has happened before so I only panicked a little. I went to a different pharmacy. Same thing. I haven't put any back thinking I was doing good to follow directions on the label. My Dr. had to pull some strings to get me the generic and my insurance dont cover it so it had to come out of pocket! I got a 2 week prescription, but now I am really scared. I don't think I can go back to my old life. I would rather die. If this happened to you too you are not alone. CVS WALGREENS WAL MART ALL have stopped carrying it. It is all the DEA's fault! They are hurrassing the pharmacys. I hope whoever is behind this gets their karma back 10 fold! Don't they know we are now on the same side and want the same thing? This is all about stigma!

This is new to me. CVS filled my script about a month ago with no problem. I'll have to research this to see if it's still a problm or not. It is always been suggested to try to have at least a months extra supply on hand just in case you run into problems. What I've done with mine is to only take half my dose every other day. After a few months I had an extra box of films to fall back on just in case. It sounds hard but it isn't.
Don't take yourself so damn seriously
